Nebulae - M42 Orion Nebula

M42 - The Orion Nebula

Shown above is M42, the Great Orion Nebula, along with companion M43. To the right is the NGC 1973-75-77, which is also known as the Running Man Nebula. M42 is the most spectacular complex of nebulosity visible from our planet and is located approximately 1,500 light years from Earth. This object is easily visible as a faint fuzzy patch to the naked eye under dark skies. These objects are both located in the sword region in the constellation Orion.
