Our range of fiber optic converters are the perfect solution for signal conversion when using any type of interrupter or modulator system with your optically isolated Solid State Tesla Coil (SSTC) or Double Resonant Solid State Tesla Coil (DRSSTC) systems. With these converter boards, you can use any interruptor or modulator that has electrical input to any SSTC or DRSSTC that has a fiber optic input, or vice versa. No longer will you be left scratching your head on how to interface a particular interrupter or modulator design with your next SSTC or DRSSTC project. Our converters use standard electrical BNC inputs and outputs, and have both inputs and outputs for both ST HFBRx412 type fiber optics as well as IF-E96E bare fiber cable connectors.

Fiber Optic to BNC Converter Board

This standard fiber optic converter board accepts an ST fiber optic input from a HFBR1412x type fiber optic receiver and converts it to a 5V electrical TTL compatible output signal via an onboard BNC connector. An onboard 5V regulator ensures that the output is always regulated to a 5V TTL compatible signal and both positive and negative output polarity is selectable by an onboard jumper. Two status LEDs show the user that the device is both powered and active signals are being converted.

This kit is especially useful if you are pairing fiber optic based interrupters and modulators with our older legacy kits such as the miniBrute DRSSTC system.

Dual BNC to Fiber Optic Combiner Board

This combiner / converter board is the perfect solution for those that want to interface two electrical output based interrupters or modulators into a single fiber optic output to feed into their SSTC or DRSSTC control system. The combiner board features two electrical BNC inputs and both a Agilent HFBR1412T ST type fiber optic connector and an Industrial Fiber Optics IF-E96E fiber optic connector for bare fiber optic cable. Both fiber optic connectors are active at all times, and output polarity, both non-inverting and inverting, can be selected via an onboard jumper. Two status LEDs show the user that the device is both powered and active signals are being converted. Both electrical inputs have custom programmable voltage divider networks which allow the end user to scale the inputs to any voltage desired.

The combiner board will essential OR the two inputs together and provide a corresponding fiber optic output which can be sent to an SSTC or DRSSTC controller.

This device was specifically designed for connecting both a Xenosonic Modulator and an Advanced Modulator to a Plasmasonic DRSSTC Musical Tesla Coil system in a permanent museum exhibit, but can be used for similar applications in practically any fiber optic based SSTC or DRSSTC control system.

Fiber Optic Converter
BNC to Fiber Optic Converter Board

Our BNC to Fiber Optic Converter boards are most commonly used for lab and testing applications. Whenever one needs a simple passive electrical to fiber optic conversion, look no further. Each board accepts a 3V to 24V input electrical signal via a female BNC connector and converts that signal to a current that drives either an Agilent HFBR1412T or Industrial Fiber Optic IF-E96E fiber optic transmitter.

Onboard current limiting resistors allow the end user to specify the exact current required for their particular application as well as scale the current per the input voltage. These converters will handle a minimum of 3V input and a maximum of at least 24V - the maximum voltage of course being limited to the power being dissipated in the current limiting resistors. Protection diodes across each fiber optic transmitter protect the fiber optics from reverse voltage.

As stated before, these are most commonly used for lab testing and troubleshooting. In particular, a function generator can be used to drive an interrupter signal in the absence of a dedicated interrupter or modulator and the resulting output fiber optic signal can be directly connected to the input of an SSTC or DRSSTC control system.
