Plasmasonic Power Distribution Assembly

Plasmasonic Power DRSSTC Distribution Assembly


The Plasmasonic(R) Power Distribution Assembly contains all the electronics and intelligence to safetly distribute power among all the subassemblies within the Plasmasonic DRSSTC system. Accepting a standard input voltage of 115VAC 50/60Hz, it distributes this power to two (2) 115VAC fan outputs, a primary AC output used to provide power to the bridge DC power supply, and 20VAC auxiliary output voltages which can be used to power a universal DRSSTC controller as well as our own RGB LED illumination board.

All power outputs, including the fan outputs, primary AC output, and auxiliary outputs are protected with fuses. The primary AC output, which is used for the DC power supply to provide power to the main IGBT bridge, also features inrush current protection. Because of the large electrolytic capacitors used in the DC power supply, current needs to be limited on start-up to prevent fuses from blowing as input current to these capacitors is extremely high during initial start-up. A safety crowbar bleeder circuit is also provided onboard to safetly discharge the DC bus capacitors when power is removed. Once 115VAC is removed from the power distribution assembly, a relay closes which places a large resistor across the output of the DC bus capacitors, therefore, safely bleeding them down to prevent the user from receiving an electrical shock during maintenance or transportation.

Sequencing circuitry is provided onboard which times the main primary power disconnect relay as well as the safety bleeder relays. When the power distribution board first receives power, the safety bleeder circuit will open up removing the bleeder resistor from the circuit. After about 1-2 seconds, the primary power disconnect relay will close allowing power to flow through the power distribution board and be output to the external DC power supply. Once power is removed from the power distribution board, the safety bleed relay will close placing the bleed resistor across the DC bus capacitors, and then primary power disconnect relay will open up removing the path between the input AC voltage and the DC power supply.

Although this power distribution assembly was designed for the Plasmasonic DRSSTC system, it is also designed to be 100% compatible and universal for all small-to-mid size DRSSTC systems. The primary AC output is compatible with all typical DRSSTC voltage doubling DC power supply arrangements and the 20VAC aux. output is compatible with our own Universal DRSSTC controller as well as other Universal DRSSTC drivers which designs are available on the internet.

The primary AC output voltage of this system is designed for 10A continous output, however, higher current capabilties are possible by slightly modifying the current inrush circuit components.
